Purchase Protection

Purchase Protection is available on eligible Venmo Debit Card and Venmo business profile transactions, or when you use your Venmo account to make an in-app purchase or scan a QR code at checkout. It’s also available when you tell Venmo you’re paying for a good or service before you send a payment in the app. If something goes wrong, Venmo will investigate eligible purchases, work with the seller to help make it right, or even reimburse you for what you paid plus original shipping costs.

If you receive something that’s different from what you bought, an item was damaged in shipping, parts are missing, or your purchase never arrives, Purchase Protection could apply. You can read more about eligibility in our User Agreement.

Eligible examples

• You bought a book, but received a DVD
• You put a deposit down for a photography session, but the photographer doesn’t show up
• You purchased an item described as authentic, but received a knockoff
• The item you bought is missing major parts that the seller didn’t report
• You purchased three items but only received two
• The item was damaged during shipping

Ineligible examples

• Any payments made using your Venmo account that are not Venmo Debit Card, in-app purchases, QR code checkouts, payments to a business profile, or payments not tagged as goods and services purchases in the app
• Donations, including payments on crowdfunding platforms
• Vehicles, including but not limited to motor vehicles, motorcycles, recreational vehicles, aircraft, and boats
• Real estate, including residential property
• Financial products or investments of any kind
• Gambling, gaming and/or any other activity with an entry fee and a prize

Purchase Protection is available for eligible transactions with no fees to the buyer. When you indicate you’re paying for a good or service in the app, or send a payment to a Venmo business profile, a transaction fee of 2.99% of the sale is charged to the seller.
